PCI DV

PCI digital video interface

Features

  • Single PCI local bus slot
  • Interfaces digital cameras to PCI Local Bus Computers
  • Supports 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 24 bit resolution
  • Direct memory access to host memory-camera resolution independent
  • 33 Mhz, 32-bit PCI board
  • PCI Local Bus data rates up to maximum supported by host
  • Programmable mode, exposure time, gain black level and triggering
  • Device drivers and software development kit for Sun Solaris™ (Sparc and Intel Platforms), Linux, and Windows
  • Supports AIA serial command interface over RS-422 and 232 serial lines

Description

The PCI DV provides high-resolution image capture for digital video cameras. Its 80-pin connector provides support for most AIA camera models. Spatial and depth resolution and the number of buffers are limited only by the host memory. Images can be captured and displayed in real time.

The PCI DV is similar to EDT's PCI DVK, with the main difference being that the PCI DVK, with its 68-pin connector, allows the use of standard cabling with AIA extended serial cameras such as the Redlake MASD (formerly Kodak) MEGAPLUS series cameras.

Cameras Supported

Most AIA Monochrome, Category 1, extended single and dual channel digital cameras and some color cameras are supported by the PCI DV.

Software

The PCI DV comes with a configurable device driver, a C language interface library, example programs, and an X-Windows or MS Windows based camera control and image capture and display program (see screen shots). The device driver provides direct virtual memory access for the host computer, including features for controlling the device and determining its status. Example programs demonstrate this capability using the functions provided in the library. A number of third party products are available as well to provide turn-key solutions to image acquisition needs.

Applications

  • Machine vision
  • Manufacturing/Inspection
  • Computer microscopy
  • Astronomy
  • Aerial mapping
  • Image archiving
  • Image processing and analysis
  • Medical imaging
  • Multimedia
  • Security

Specifications

Video Interface

A programmable gate array is configured for a specific camera when the driver is loaded. Thirty-two RS-422 or LVDS signals are configured as inputs or outputs, as required by the camera. Outputs can also be configured as single-ended for TTL camera control lines. The PCI DV does not include frame buffer memory. Video data is stored in host memory as required by the camera and application.

Software

SDK including device drivers for Solaris™, Linux, and Windows are included with purchase of the board. Device drivers for VxWorks and MacOS are also available.

PCI Bus Compliance

PCI 2.1s

Cables

Cables to connect the PCI DV to a variety of cameras are available. For part numbers, refer to our PCI DV cable list. Cables are typically 10 feet long unless otherwise specified. Longer cables can be special ordered.
